Christmas for the Needy
For over 20 years the Foundation has arranged and catered for a special Christmas Lunch that provides for over 230 needy individuals from a variety of backgrounds. It is an extension of our daily work in the Dundas and Parramatta region, which brings Christmas joy to those who have noone to spend it with.
How It All Started
The heart of the Manning Foundation’s mission lies in its annual Christmas Lunch, a heartwarming tradition that began in 1987, sparked by the compassion of Father Higgins, the then Parish Priest of St. Bernadette’s Parish in Dundas Valley. It began with hampers filled with fresh produce, assembled in the local school hall for those in need at Christmas. This act of generosity ignited the spark that would eventually grow into the Manning Foundation’s cherished annual ‘Christmas for the Needy’.
From humble beginnings, the event is now attended by over 230 individuals around the area. Some are elderly, or without family to care for them, others are recovering from abuse and live in hostels, and many are incapacitated. They all come from different struggles but they all share a common trait:
They have no one to have Christmas with.
More than just a meal, the Christmas for the Needy is a heartwarming testament to the power of community and shared humanity, ensuring that no one feels alone during what should be the most wonderful time of the year. It’s a festive celebration filled with:
